Habitat Homes are sold to those in need at no profit to Habitat and with no interest charged. In order to qualify, applicants must attend an application interview and meet the requirements on this page.

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) in an international, non-profit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry that was founded in 1976 by Linda and Millard Fuller. HFHI builds decent, affordable homes in partnership with qualified persons, community volunteers, area churches and businesses. HFHI has built over 200,000 houses in more than 80 countries.

The Calcasieu Area Affiliate was established in 1992 and has built close to 50 houses in Lake Charles, Sulphur, and DeQuincy. Presently, we are beginning our first house in Cameron, Louisiana.

1. Attend an application interview.

2. Return an application by deadline. No exceptions!

3. ALL applications MUST include copies of:

• Social Security Card
• Drivers License or Picture ID for each adult applicant
• All bills with current balances
• Proof of income (copy of most current 2-4 pay stubs)
• Child Support, alimony -- copy of liens or statement from property owner
• Award or benefit letter for disability income

4. Applicants must be currently living in sub-standard housing. Some of the problems include:
   

• Victims of Hurricane --- FEMA number required
• Electrical or heating problems
• Water Leaks
• Structural Problems
• Overcrowding
• Rent totaling      or more of family's income

5. Applicants must be able to pay a monthly mortgage payment. the average monthly mortgage payment for homeowners is $370 this amount includes insurance and taxes.

6. Applicants must be willing to partner with Habitat and work a minimum of 300 "Sweat Equity" hours building Habitat homes.

7. Applicants must agree to a credit check and a criminal history background check.
